Dog Bed Sizing Guide: How to Measure Your Dog the Right Way
Getting the size right is the single biggest factor in whether a calming bed actually works for your dog. Get it wrong, and even the best-designed bed will feel too cramped or too exposed to be comforting.
Measure curled up, not stretched out
Most sizing charts assume your dog lies stretched out, but anxious and velcro dogs typically want to curl into a tight ball. Have your dog curl up in their favorite resting spot, then measure nose to tail in a circle. That number, not their standing length, is what should guide your size choice.
Nuzzl size guide
- Small — up to ~9 lbs (curled diameter ~50cm)
- Medium — up to ~16 lbs (curled diameter ~60cm)
- Large — up to ~44 lbs (curled diameter ~80cm)
- X-Large — up to ~77 lbs (curled diameter ~100cm)
When to size up
If your dog likes to stretch out sometimes and curl up other times, size up one level so they have room for both. Breeds with a lot of coat (huskies, chows, corgis) can also benefit from sizing up slightly, since their fur adds bulk that a snug measurement won't account for.
